Tuesday, April 24, 2012 (CST) - User-Centered Data Visualization (UI for Geeks)
speaker: Dr. Tobias Komischke and Jason Beres

Microsoft
6PM - 9PM

Session 1

Topic:    User-Centered Data Visualization

Speaker: Dr. Tobias Komischke

“Get rid of numbers and get me some graphics!” Data Visualization is an ongoing trend in the industry because presenting data graphically allows for quicker understanding for those who interpret the data. Yet, from a usability angle some visualization forms are better suited than others for specific questions and uses. Also, applying standard software ergonomic rules like color treatments, label orientation, etc. can significantly boost the effectiveness of visualization.

This presentation provides an overview of the topic and shows through many examples what you should look for when designing data visualizations.

Session 2

Topic:  Building Interactive, Multi-Device Data Visualizations with XAML & jQuery

Speaker: Jason Beres

There are many ways to communicate information, such as charts, gauges, geospatial mapping and data grids.  Using technologies like XAML & jQuery, you can deliver rich and interactive data visualization experiences across multiple platforms & devices.

In this code-focused talk, you will learn how to create high performance, expressive data visualizations that run on the browser, as desktop apps, and on devices like iPads, Windows 8 tablets and Android tablets.  At the end of this talk, you will understand the techniques, tools and technologies you’ll need to implement effective visual experiences.
