Web Developer

Posted by on Tuesday, March 02, 2010 (CST)

800-hosting is looking for a full time web developer in downtown Dallas.

Are you the kind of person who is passionate about technology and loves to help others? Do you enjoy responsibility, accountability, and the ability to make a real difference within a company? Are you comfortable tackling challenges by yourself, as well as working as a team to meet personal, customer, and company-defined goals? If so, 1-800-HOSTING is for you.

Who we are:

We are an established hosting service provider with over 12 years of experience building complex managed hosting solutions. We offer enterprise level solutions to customers with all types of requirements. These include single server solutions, complex managed multi-server environments, as well as cloud computing and virtualization deployments that deliver reliable, scalable, and cost effective product choices that exceed customer expectations.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for talented individuals to join our growing development team. Not having the bureaucracy typical of a large company, our employees are able to perform multiple roles by giving them the freedom to branch out and make contributions where possible. We are looking for people that work well as a team, as well as those that can see a project or issue through to completion. Applicants looking to join our team should be well versed in client-server programming for the internet. They should understand the process of a network request from the client computer, to the server delivering the content, as well as all of the nuts and bolts in between that make it work. Individuals looking to join our team should be excellent problem solvers with great imagination and a creative way of solving difficult challenges.

Skills and traits we believe to be relevant to success in this position:

• Reliable and trustworthy. If you aren’t here, or can’t be counted upon, how can you be expected to succeed here?
• Self motivated. As I mentioned before we have a small company atmosphere. While we will provide overall direction, you are expected to meet and accomplish goals with minimal supervision.
• Excellent team and group work skills. While all of us think we are Superman, the reality is we have to rely on others eventually. The ability to work with others, both under positive and less than ideal circumstances is essential.
• Communication. All of the technical knowledge and ability in the world isn’t of much use if you can’t share it with others. So the ability to clearly outline your thoughts and explain it to us less fortunate souls is crucial. In addition, being able to explain your thinking to other developers, some remote or in other countries, is a necessary skill.
• Research and troubleshooting skills. The ability to identify a problem, and then research various resources (internal, vendor, and external documentation) to find an implement a solution.
• Structured and reusable code. The ability to quickly turn out code that operates is a great thing, but without a well thought out, reusable, efficient solution, it is only a kludge.
• Programming Languages. ASP.NET, Javascript, HTML, XML, and CSS are must-have, with PHP, Perl, Ruby on Rails, or Flex highly desirable.
• HTTP, FTP, SOAP,SSH, TCP, IP. If you aren’t intimately familiar with all of these protocols, or the various related applications, then you may not want to apply.
• MySQL, PostreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server. These are what power the majority of Internet e-commerce sites these days, so familiarity configuring, managing, troubleshooting, and coding for them are critical.
• Apache, Lighttpd, IIS, Tomcat. These are also what power the majority of Internet e-commerce sites these days, so familiarity configuring, managing, and troubleshooting is also critical.
• Windows, Linux, and Mac with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. I know everyone has a favorite OS and browser, but cross-compatibility in a customer-facing heterogeneous environment is essential.
• Previous Hosting Experience! If you have worked in this field before you probably have a pretty good idea of the required technology. We’ll show you how we do it better.

So what are the benefits of working here?

• Flexible scheduling for school, family, or whatever is important to you
• Company paid health/dental after 90 days of employment.
• 2 weeks paid vacation per year
• Company weekly sponsored lunches
• Paid commissions and overtime/on-call opportunities
• The ability to grow, learn, and progress
• Free cake for your birthday! Who doesn’t like free cake?

We are hiring for all shifts. All applicants should include a cover letter indicating why they should be considered for employment. No walk-in’s or phone calls will be accepted, and we do not sponsor Visa’s.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Principals only.  Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
Please, no phone calls about this job!

Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.
